[ARCHIVED] Celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on Sunday, July 26

Person in wheelchair

July 26 marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services encourages you to celebrate this important milestone by advocating for people with developmental disabilities.

How can you celebrate?

  • Read up on disability history:
  • Share pro-disability messages on your social media accounts. If you’re looking for good content to share, you might check out:

  • Connect employers with pro-disability employment resources. The Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion offers trainings and webinars that help people understand how to build a disability-inclusive organization.

  • Thank the elected officials who have been responsive to your needs. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Montgomery County Commissioners have made funds from the Montgomery County Human Services Levy available to MCBDDS to purchase meals and critical medical and sanitation supplies to benefit the people MCBDDS serves. These resources have been distributed free of charge to providers, individuals and their caregivers. Drop them a note of appreciation using this link.

  • Share your story. MCBDDS is always looking for ways to highlight the talents, work ethic and gifts of people with developmental disabilities in its communication efforts. Just contact Janice Saddler Rice, our director of Communications, at communityrelations@mcbdds.org or 937-776-0866 or Communications Specialist Amy Banks at 937-732-3706 or abanks@mcbdds.org.
