How MCBDDS is assisting providers to address the workforce crisis
The Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services (MCBDDS) realizes the critical nature of the workforce crisis and the impact it is having on the lives and welfare of people with developmental disabilities. As such, we are offering a variety of supports to assist providers of services in Montgomery County:
- We will continue to pay the overtime portion of agency and day service provider staff costs through March 31, and will reevaluate the possibility of continuing this support quarter by quarter.
- We will continue to offer grants for Direct Support Professional (DSP) recruitment, hiring, retention and incentives. These grants require a description and projected cost of the project. Small agencies may ask for up to $5,000; mid-size agencies up to $15,000; and larger agencies up to $30,000.
- We will continue to offer the $400 incentive to provider staff who have completed their initial vaccination/s.
- We will reimburse travel and hotel for DSPs that travel from one county to another to provide services during a critical staff shortage. (Note: This requires prior approval from MCBDDS.)
- We will cover the cost of pay for DSPs taking part in the 60-hour training for the DSP Competency Add-on by giving agency providers $1,000 when the DSP completes training to cover the cost of their pay during those 60 hours.
- We continue to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) through our Pandemic Resource Center.
