Wright State University will continue holding its Breaking Silences Peer Group to allow people with disabilities to connect with others and find community during this period of social distancing. The MCBDDS Behavior Support Services Department is offering crisis management training for Direct Support Staff (DSP). This training is for both agency staff and independent providers who provide services in Montgomery County. We will be offering Crisis Prevention Institute’s (CPI) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® Training. Topics include de-escalation techniques, positive support strategies, communication considerations, risk assessment and staff responses to risk behaviors. Physical skills for self-protection and safe holds will also be taught. Class size is limited. A minimum of 12 participants is required per session, if the minimum is not met then registrants will be scheduled for a different date. This is a 2-day training.

Class meets mandatory training requirements for both initial orientation and annual renewals of Direct Support Professionals. Students will receive an additional certificate verifying 3 hours of the mandatory CEU’s required by the department (DODD). These CEU hours are also approved for the competency-based training and longevity add-on.
